Windjammer developed and delivered a campus wide lockout/tagout program and hazard communication database for the Bedford VA Medical Center. Roughly 900 machines that required management under 29 CFR 1910.147 were inventoried, and machine specific injury prevention lockout/tagout procedures were developed and implemented in a campus wide program. Windjammer also provided hazard specific lockout/tagout training to VA engineering staff and contractors. Areas surveyed included: the primary boiler plant, electrical vaults, mechanical rooms, elevator machine rooms, the morgue, patient care areas, research facilities and residential housing units.
Windjammer developed and delivered compliant OSHA 10 and 30 Hour Construction Safety Training to DC VAMC staff members. Training topics included, but were not limited to, infection control practices, electrical safety, lockout/tagout, fall protection, excavations, struck by, scaffold safety, motor vehicle safety, fire protection and prevention, and confined space entry. Certificates and OSHA wallet cards were provided upon the completion of the training.
Windjammer conducted an indoor air quality and fugitive odor investigation in occupied areas within the DC VAMC to monitor the emissions of weld metal fumes and other general indoor air contaminants during the installation of Air Handling Units in the hospital center. Employee exposure monitoring and hazard assessments were also conducted on an emergency and as needed basis.
